Atlas Bar - Singapore

Atlas Bar in Singapore is a place that defies ordinary descriptions, something between a Gatsby-era fantasy and a cathedral devoted to the art of the cocktail. Housed in the grand Parkview Square building dripping with Art Deco opulence. When you walk in, it’s hard not to feel awestruck, like you’ve entered some kind of enchanted palace, with soaring ceilings, intricate gold leaf accents, and a gin tower that looms over the room like a monument to decadence.

The first thing that strikes you is the sheer scale of the place. Atlas is sprawling yet somehow manages to feel intimate, like every corner has a story, every inch designed to transport you back to the glamor and excess of the 1920s. The bar itself is unlike anything else in the world, a towering structure of glass and steel that reaches up to the ceiling, housing thousands of bottles of gin, each carefully curated, each representing a piece of Atlas’s identity. There’s a kind of grandeur here that feels almost sacred, as if this isn’t just a bar but a temple to the forgotten art of elegance.

Atlas is known for many things. Their towering gin collection, the grandeur of the room, the world-class bartenders, but their martini is what you’ll carry with you long after you’ve left. The Atlas Martini begins with their own house gin, crafted exclusively for them and tailored to highlight balance and depth. It’s smooth yet assertive, layered with botanicals that unfold sip by sip. To this, the bartenders add Ambrato vermouth, lending a rounded, almost honeyed quality, along with a dash of orange bitters for lift. The final flourish, champagne vinegar, is unexpected, a sharp, bracing note that cuts clean through the richness, giving the drink a tension that makes it unforgettable.

Served ice-cold, the martini has a clarity and precision that speaks to Atlas’s philosophy: balance above all. It’s strong, floral and complex. A martini that feels familiar yet entirely new. Each sip shifts slightly, from the botanical backbone of the gin to the delicate sweetness of the vermouth, to the bite of vinegar and bitters that linger on the finish.

Beyond the drink itself, part of what makes an Atlas Martini so memorable is the setting, the ambiance that wraps itself around you like velvet. The bartenders at Atlas aren’t just there to mix drinks; they’re there to create moments, to make you feel like you’re part of something rare and exceptional. They move with a grace and confidence that only comes from mastery, from an understanding that they’re not just pouring gin and vermouth; they’re crafting an experience.

When you finally step out into the Singapore night, you carry that martini with you, not in your hand but in your memory. That martini lingers in your mind, not just for its flavors, but for the experience as a whole, the way it made you feel. It’s not just the drink; it’s everything that came with it, the towering gin library, the quiet hum of conversation, the palpable history that seemed to echo through every gilded detail of the bar. You leave knowing that you’ve experienced something memorable - right before you head to one of the many Hawker Centers to devour 50 small chicken satay skewers.
